Parma: Beat the coaches fun run

High school athletics such as track and field are suffering budget cuts.

The Parma track and field team will be hosting a 5K fun run on May 22 at 3:30 p.m. Head coach Jake Walgamott and his staff have issued a challenge to athletes, parents, and other coaches. Several coaches will be running while some will be walking the course. Whether you are a runner or a walker, come out and see how many coaches you can beat.

With ever tightening school budgets leading to cuts in athletic programs and pay-to-play funding, coaches are getting creative with ways to support their programs. Sponsoring a fitness challenge is not only unique, it is a healthy alternative to cookie dough or cotton candy sales! Participants have an opportunity to do something active, get a cool t-shirt that brags of their accomplishment, and support high school athletes all in one afternoon.
