Parkway School District installs cameras on school bus' shell

In an attempt to reduce the recidivism rate of impatient drivers who refuse to obey stop signs mounted on school buses, the Parkway School District has taken a preemptive strike against those drivers who have been plowing through the signs. As if nearly running down children in intersections are not bad enough, there have been incidents of some drivers, taking to the sidewalks with their vehicles to avoid needing to stop and wait for the children to pass by.

It is my understanding that these cameras will act in the same manner as red light motion cameras. The school buses already have cameras inside the bus but the drivers have felt powerless to have driver's cited for failing to stop at intersections when the bus' stop sign is displayed to other drivers. According to the school district, 12 buses now have mounted cameras outside of the buses. The cameras will take pictures of vehicles and license plates. It is unknown at this time whether the district will turn the photographs over to police.
