Spending time in the great outdoors is a rejuvenating experience. While spending time outside is good for the body and mind, it is important to always remain cautious. Simple safety tips may save you a lot of time and money.
It is a good idea not to take any kind of valuables along with you. Take just your ID and a small amount of cash for any park fees. Do not leave anything in the vehicle you don't want stolen, trust me. Women, if you don't need to take your purse with you, don't. Even locking it up in the trunk is not foolproof. You never know who is watching what you are doing.
Lock the doors to your vehicle and do not leave a spare key hidden inside. It is also a good idea to check your State's laws about vehicle registration. If the state does not require you to keep a copy of your registration in the vehicle, don't do it. Should someone break into your vehicle and the registration is taken, a criminal can change the registration into their name. It makes it very easy to lose your vehicle for good.
Should your vehicle be broken into, immediately contact the police. Then, write down everything you notice is missing and take pictures. You are more likely able to recall everything that was taken if you write it down.
This is a terrible thing to happen, but it unfortunately does. Do not take it personally as your emotions will hinder you from making an accurate report. It may also make you forget what items you had in your vehicle or purse. This type of crime can happen to anyone, so ensure you stay smart and aware.
I know this article may seem a little depressing, but I am providing this advice unfortunately, from first hand experience. Always be aware of your surroundings and do not make it easier for criminals.
