Celebrities have been tweeting their condolences and sadness over the loss of Nelson Mandela since the news broke of his death earlier this afternoon. The world was saddened by his passing, even though it was inevitable with the long illness he was suffering from. Paris Hilton was the target of a joke tweet regarding Mandela’s passing. According to a Dec. 5 report from E! Online, Hilton was upset over the joke and said it “lacked respect.”
The incident occurred when the Twitter account @Deletedtweets posted a fake tweet from what looked like Paris Hilton. The tweet read “RIP Nelson Mandela. Your 'I Have a Dream' speech was so inspiring. An amazing man.” Apparently several blog sites and bloggers wrote about the tweet and that did not sit well with Paris Hilton either. The fake tweet garnered over 10,000 retweets before the starlet found out about the stunt.
It looks like someone is always out to gain fame over someone else’s misfortune. Paris Hilton was the target of a bad joke, and she was quick to let everyone know it was not a real tweet. This just proves that everything on Twitter isn’t real, especially when it comes to doctoring screen shots and the like. Hilton did tweet a message about Nelson Mandela after she cleared things up with fans.
