Paris Hilton strikes plea deal in connection with Las Vegas drug arrest (video)
On Monday, Paris Hilton, 29, pleaded guilty to two misdemeanor counts of drug possession and obstructing an officer, stemming from a Las Vegas arrest last month.
ABC News reports that under the terms of a plea deal she struck with prosecutors, the heiress will serve 200 hours of community service, pay a $2,000 fine, and avoid any jail time. To avoid a felony conviction, the socialite will serve a year of probation.
On August 26, Hilton was arrested inside the Wynn resort after police reported a small plastic bag containing 0.8 of a gram of cocaine fell out of Hilton’s purse in front of an officer.
ABC notes that she initially told police both the purse and the cocaine did not belong to her.
The prosecutor in Hilton’s case said she won’t be required to report to a probation officer, however, if she gets into trouble again in Las Vegas, she will automatically serve one year behind bars.
Hilton has been permanently banned from all Wynn properties, according to reports.
This is not the first time Hilton has had a run-in with the law. The heiress spent three weeks at the Los Angeles County jail in Lynwood in 2007 for violating terms of DUI conviction. More recently, she was briefly charged with marijuana possession in July while attending a World Cup match in South Africa. The case against her was dropped when a woman accompanying Hilton pleaded guilty to the charge.
