September 20, 2010 - Paris Hilton gets away without jail
Paris Hilton appeared before a judge early Monday morning and where pleaded guilty as part of a deal to avoid jail.
The heiress, 29, will only serve a year of probation, which includes completing a substance abuse program, 200 hours of community service and paying a $2,000 fine.
Paris, who appeared calm and serious during the hearing, also was told by the judge that if she gets arrested again during her probation period she would get a year in jail.
"The purpose here is to change your conduct. [The Clark County Detention Center] is not the Waldorf=Astoria."Justice of the Peace, Joe Bonaventure told Hilton.
"Defendant shall stay out of trouble. Defendant agrees that an arrest for any charge, excluding minor traffic violations for which a citation is issued, shall result in the immediate termination of her probation and the execution of the suspended sentences," The deal stated.

According to sources, Paris sat in the front row of the courtroom with her attorney David Chesnoff, and wore a white blouse with a black pencil skirt. The celebutante was there to confront the charges from her arrest on August 28 in Las Vegas for the possession of cocaine. She pleaded guilty and admitted that she lied to police when she said the purse containing the drug was not hers.
When the hearing concluded, Chesnoff assured reporters that Paris did not receive any preferential treatment.
"She was treated like anyone else would be treated under the circumstances, and I'm very proud of the way she's dealt with this. I think she's on the road to success and I wish her personally the best."

Chesnoff also said that Paris would probably serve her appointed community service by doing work with animals and/or children's hospitals.
