The recent unusually risque performance at the MTV VMAs has continued to make headlines. BBC News reported on Aug. 27, 2013, Miley Cyrus MTV performance draws complaints.
The Parents Television Council (PTC) has issued a complaint against MTV over Cyrus's sexy routine, in which she danced suggestively in a nude bikini with singer Robin Thicke.
This group has argued that this show should not have been rated as being suitable for 14 year olds, and has added, "Heads should roll at MTV." Billy Ray Cyrus, who is Miley's father,is among those on the PTC's advisory board. However, it appears he has not been party to the complaint, which also criticized MTV for airing a condom advertisement during the show.
Dan Isett, the PTC's director of public policy said, "This much is absolutely clear: MTV marketed adults-only material to children while falsely manipulating the content rating to make parents think the content was safe for their children." Cyrus's sexually provocative performance also drew criticism from a number of US media outlets, with Mika Brzezinski of MSNBC calling it "really, really disturbing," while NBC's Anna Chan called it "embarrassingly raunchy".
Talented and attractive Cyrus doesn't seem to be bothered by the criticism and has said, "My VMA performance had 306,000 tweets per minute. That's more than the blackout or Superbowl!" Nevertheless, Z News has reported one of the PTC advisory board members said that in this performance the duo simply substituted talent with sex.
