Reports are now confirmed that a couple in Tennessee killed their 5 year old daughter, Alexa Linboom, during a punishment gone wrong. Charges have been pressed, and a trial is upcoming.

The couple is facing murder charges as well as several other charges after making the child "gulp excessive amounts of water and grape soda" which ultimately led to the little girls demise.

She was so severely punished because she took "one or two grape drinks" that was the property of her stepmother.

CNN reports that the D.A. stated "She was allegedly force-fed so much liquid that it caused the sodium level in her body to go down and caused her brain to swell."

What is known is that the couple made the small child drink in excess of 2 liters of fluid over a 2 hour period of time. Though no specifics were given it is clear that it was done as a form of punishment for taking her stepmothers sodas.

Alexa Linboom became unresponsive and was taken by the couple to a nearby hospital. She was declared brain dead and removed from life support 2 days later.

The cause of death was determined to be "a homicide as a result of forced acute fluid/water intoxication"

The investigation has been ongoing for 2 years, and the couple's trial is scheduled to start this October.

Mary Lavonne Vaughn, 58 and her husband Randall Lee Vaughn, 41, are both charged with two counts of aggravated child neglect, first degree murder, and aggravated child abuse.

Their bond is $500,000 each, and they have not yet entered a plea.
