Parenting Fail of the Week: Mom gives booze and cocaine to toddlers

Take heed, parents in Medford and beyond: there are safer and more practical ways to keep your children entertained and sufficiently hydrated on a blazing hot summer day.

A Connecticut mom and her friend were both arrested and taken into custody by police for endangering two young children, aged ten months and four years.

Juliette Dunn, 29 and Lisa Jefferson, 33, both of Bridgeport, were arrested after witnesses reported to police that they  saw Dunn’s 4-year-old son drinking alcohol from a 40-ounce bottle of Steele Reserve at a park in Bridgeport.  The debauchery did not stop there; they boy’s 10-month-old sister’s baby bottle also contained booze, according to the police.

Police patrolling the area were initially alerted by witnesses who reported that the women were encouraging the 4-year-old to imbibe on the large container of beer.  He was reportedly told to “chug” the booze.  Dunn confessed to police that the boy is given a bottle of beer to drink every day.

The boy disclosed to social workers that he liked “Natural Ice beer, Budweiser beer; but, didn’t like the taste of the Dog-Bite beer,” as reported by The Connecticut Post.

After police determined what was transpiring, both children were transported to Bridgeport Hospital, where the 10-month-old girl also tested positive for cocaine.  Both children tested positively for alcohol as well.  Dunn was not clear why her infant daughter tested positive for cocaine, explaining that she did not breastfeed the child.

Dunn and Jefferson were both arrested, and have been charged with two counts each of risk of injury to a child, as well as second-degree assault. Each of the women are being held on $100,000 bond.
