NBC's "Parenthood" is back for season five starting tonight, Sept. 26. The popular comedy-drama series has moved to Thursday nights, but fans of the show are thrilled that NBC decided to renew it at all considering rumors of its cancellation have lingered for two seasons now.
You remember how season three ended. All the loose ends were tied up and it definitely seemed more like a series finale than a season finale. Fans immediately took to Twitter and Facebook to voice their concerns about the show possibly ending. When the network announced that the show was back for season four, fans couldn't help but think that their tweets and Facebook messages were actually read. It was a victory for fans on social media and the news inspired many more "Parenthood" fans to share their love of the show over Twitter, Facebook, and Tumblr.
The efforts made by those who constantly tweet the show's official Twitter account or write on the show's Facebook page show how important social media can be to a show's success. While individual tweets probably aren't read by the producers, the avalanche of support for "Parenthood" was clearly felt at the peak of the production mountain. Obviously, viewers don't have access to producers' emails or telephone numbers, so venting and showing their love on social media is one of the few ways fans can express themselves.
"Parenthood" is a wonderful show that makes viewers feel like they have an extended family. Everyone wants to be a Braverman and tonight, they can. Tune in at 10 p.m. EST on NBC.
