Three movies – Last Vegas, Ender’s Game and 12 Years a Slave hit screens nationwide this weekend. Only one will hold interest for those and their teens and young and 12 Years was not made available for a screening.
Movie: Ender’s Game
Plot: In every teen-ager’s fantasy, their video-game like expertise is needed to help save the Earth from aliens that many thought had been defeated decades before.
Studio: Summit Entertaintment.
Violence: There’s plenty of video-game style violence, but there’s also plenty against sentient beings. One person is severely wounded in a fight.
Gore: Nothing there.
Sexual content: You will wonder if the teens in this flick had hormones.
Nudity: See above.
Substance abuse: Nope.
Recommendation: The rating is basically right. For those 12 and older or for anyone who has read the popular books.
Movie: Last Vegas
Plot: Four men in their golden years invade Las Vegas for the bachelor party for one of them. Call it the anti-Hangover.
Studio: CBS Films
Violence: One punch is thrown.
Language: There’s sex talk thrown around a word for a sex act is used.
Sexual content: One of these fine gents gets the OK to be unfaithful and openly discusses his Viagra.
Nudity: Oh so close, but nothing is revealed.
Substance abuse: Drinking. Plenty of drinking.
Recommendation: No one younger than 17 will want to see it, but save it for a mature 13-year old.
I am the father of two sons, one of whom is 10-years-old My recommendations are based on their maturity level. I realize this is subjective and recognize that some parents are stricter and others less so. Please take this into consideration and look at content details under each category.
