Parent leaves children in car while shopping, vehicle stolen with kids inside

I just received an emergency page from my Amber Alert monitoring system. I immediately checked the local news but could not find any broadcasts. Next, I checked several news broadcasts in Springfield where the text stated the incident occurred.

The Missouri Highway Patrol has issued an Amber Alert for a missing child in Springfield.
The child's father says someone stole his gray 2002 Nissan Maxima with his one-year-old in the back seat in north Springfield. The car theft happened Saturday afternoon outside a flea market next to a grocery store on Commercial Street.

The missing child, Harmony J. Blue, is approximately two-feet tall, mixed race, with black hair and brown eyes. She weighs approximately 21 pounds and was wearing a blue, one-piece sleeper.

  • 2002 Gray Nissan Maxima

Authorities say a four-year-old boy was also in the car. However, that child was dropped off in the 800 block of Newton Avenue in west Springfield. That's near McGregor Elementary School.

Please call 911 or (417) 864-1810 with any information

* My only question is why did the the parent leave the children alone in the vehicle in the cold weather while he was inside the store?
