It’s not surprising to see that “Paranormal Activity” debut in the top spot this weekend at the box office, knocking out “Jackass 3D” from the top spot. According to Speakeasy, the supernatural flick made about $41.5 million at the box office. This is more than what many experts were predicting.
“Jackass 3D” made $21.6 million for the weekend, bringing it down to the second spot. The Bruce Willis action comedy “Red” made $15 million and Matt Damon’s supernatural drama “Hereafter” debut in the fourth spot with $12 million. “The Social Network” is still doing well, coming in the fifth spot with $7.3 million.
Paul Dergarabedian, president of the box-office division at Hollywood.com said:
“Conventional box office wisdom would tell us that the ‘magic’ and fun of discovering the first installment would be a one-time only deal. However, with a much bigger than expected debut, ‘Paranormal Activity 2′has proven that lightning can strike twice and that audiences can’t get enough of this type of horror movie experience.”
What movie did you see this weekend? Was “Paranormal Activity” even scary? I might go see “Hereafter” sometime next week.
