Paramount Pictures Footloose Talent Search
Due to Chase Crawford's shooting schedule for 'Gossip Girls', his rep has confirmed that he will not star in the Paramount Pictures remake of the 1984 movie Footloose. Word has it that the studio will conduct a nationwide talent search to discover an unknown actor to fill the lead role vacated by Crawford.
Paramount would like to begin shooting Footloose this summer, and Chace Crawford is under contract with Gossip Girls, therefore he is unable to do both.
Originally Zac Efron was set to star in Footloose with 'High School Musical' franchise director Kenny Ortega to direct. But Efron pulled out, stating that he did not want to be typecast as a dancing musical guy. Then Kenny ortega decided not to direct the film due to exhaustion from shooting the Michael Jackson concert film 'This Is It'. After Ortega backed out, Paramount ditched its most recent rewrite from screenwriter Susannah Grant, and hired writer/director Craig Brewer to do a rewrite. The studio loved the rewrite and now has hired Brewer to direct the film. Brewer was already commited to directing the feature film Mother Trucker starting late May, 2010 for New Regency. But President of Paramount Film Group, Adam Goodman, has convinced Brewer to also helm Footloose and has worked out any scheduling conflicts.
Goodman and Brewer are said to be on the same page about keeping more true to original film, which was more of a drama than a film centered on extravigent musical numbers.
Julianne Hough is signed on to play the role of the lead characters romantic interest. That role was played by Lori Singer in the original film, and Keven Bacon played the lead role.
