Parallels Access is a new app that allows you to control your PC or Mac from your iPad. This handy piece of software will let you use your favorite Mac or PC programs on your iPad. According to The New York Times on Aug. 28, 2013, you can run the likes of a full version of Word, Photoshop and even Excel.
The iPad becomes like a detached touch screen for a Mac or PC that’s thousands of miles away.
Parallels Access makes your iPad act as if it were part of your computer. Yu can view your desktop, move files and folders around or even watch videos. All you need is an Internet connection once the app is loaded onto your tablet and another software program on the computer you wish to access.
Parallels Access also requires that you set up a free account with the company, but this is not a deal breaker. There are other options for remote access, but this is the easiest to set up for most users. And do not worry, you can easily magnify areas of your screen as needed when working with the likes of Excel spreadsheets and Photoshop files.
A couple of potential drawbacks are price and the fact you need to make sure the computer you are accessing is on. By on I mean not asleep, but fully awake for you to use it remotely. Also the Parallels Access app is only available by an annual subscription rate of $80 per year.
