Local hometown events add spice to the Christmas season and

this weekend we have the annual Fruita Parade of Lights and a Candy Cane Hunt just for kids... read on!

Fruita Parade of Lights

Date: Saturday, December 17, 2011

Location: Fruita, CO

This years parade theme is "Rockin Around the Christmas Tree"

Here is the schedule for the days events:

Canned Food Drive & Photos with Santa from 2:00 p.m. - 4:00 p.m.

Lioness Chili Supper starts at 5:00 p.m. at the IOOF Hall: Cost: $4.00 adults / $2.00 6-12 / Free 5 - younger

Fruita Parade of Lights starts at 5:30 p.m. downtown Fruita

Get ready for the Fruita Parade of Lights. Rumor has it that Grand Junctions own land locked band of pirates "The Highland Rogues" will be taking part in the parade with their ship The Highlanders Kiss! There will also be a live Nativity Scene presented by the Fruita Assembly of God Church at 108 S. Peach from 2:00 p.m. - 4:30 p.m. As well as a second Chili Supper courtesy of The Sacred Heart Parish that will start at 6:00 p.m.

Be sure to bring coats, blankets and chairs and don't forget the warm hands and toasty toes to ward off the chill!


Candy Cane Hunt

Date: Saturday, December 17, 2011

Time: 11:00 a.m. and the hunt starts at 1:00 p.m.

Location: Lincoln Park Barn

This holiday event is for kids 3-12. There will be holiday activities, cookies and hot chocolate, music and entertainment and of course..... the Candy Cane Hunt at 1:00 p.m. at the loop.

The Mesa County Library will also be there. They will be sharing a few holiday stories in the Barn at 12:00 p.m. Santa Claus and Frosty the Snowman will be on hand as well!
