5 Some fell on rocky places, where it did not have much soil. It sprang up quickly, because the soil was shallow. 6 But when the sun came up, the plants were scorched, and they withered because they had no root.
20 The seed falling on rocky ground refers to someone who hears the word and at once receives it with joy. 21 But since they have no root, they last only a short time. When trouble or persecution comes because of the word, they quickly fall away.
Jesus continued to teach the disciples about sowing seeds. He told them about rocky places. Farmers know when they are preparing the soil about the rocky places. This soil does not handle the seed very well. The seed cannot burrow down and take root like it should. It hits a rock instead. The seed may just so happen to land in this type of soil, but the hot sun burns it into a withering state.
The Message of the gospel of Jesus Christ is sown into this type of person. He or she receives the Message and is very happy about salvation. Their joy cannot be contained, but something happens along the way. They fail to develop a root in Jesus. Their faith is very shallow. Others begin to exclude and mistreat them because of the Message. They cannot take it and fall away from the faith.
Challenge; Believer, pray for God to remove rocks and develop strong healthy roots in Him! This is imperative for a walk with Jesus!
