The Pappy Van Winkle heist has made billionaires upset and the culprits who took this stash of bourbon either very rich or very drunk. 65 cases of Pappy Van Winkle Bourbon was looted, which is some of the most sought after bourbon in the world, and it is believed to be an inside job, according to authorities in Tennessee working this case.
According to Web Pro News on Oct. 19, it is believed the heist, which had 65 cases literally walk-out the door with someone, was done over time. It’s no coincidence that the missing bourbon was not caught on security camera going out the door, police believe.
Authorities think someone inside knew where the cameras were located at the Buffalo Trace Distillery in Frankfort. This is where the 65 cases of Pappy Van Winkle Bourbon along with nine cases of Pappy Van Winkle Rye were discovered missing. The entire heist is worth about $26,000.
This is the best of the best in bourbon and the $300 to $400 price tag per bottle reflects that. Just a two-ounce shot of the 20-year-old Pappy Van Winkle Bourbon will set you back $65, according to Bill Thomas, the owner of Jack Rose Dining Saloon.
Authorities believe that the total number of bottles involved in this crime indicates the heist took about two months to accomplish. Franklyn County Sheriff Pat Melton said, “I don’t think anyone could walk out with 74 cases of bourbon. Obviously, the way this happened, it’s indicative of an inside job.”
Pappy Van Winkle bottles fly off the shelves and even folks with billions of dollars to spend have a hard time getting their hands on a bottle of this bourbon. This heist has caused “Bourbon aficionados” everywhere to become “heartbroken” over the stock being minimized by this heist, according to Web Pro.
Chances are the culprits will get caught somewhere down the line. This heist has made national news and unless the people who took the 74 cases in total of liquor from this warehouse plan on keeping this as a very private stash, their days are numbered. As soon as the bottles start showing up for sale, someone will drop a dime for sure.
