For a unique way to decorate for a party or add decorative details to a room, try making paper garlands.
These garlands are relatively sturdy but should still be handled with a little bit of care.
To make these, cut out shapes from scrapbook paper or decorative card stock. Use paper that is patterned on both sides to make the garland more versatile.
The paper is sewn together, leaving an inch or two between each shape to give the garland flexibility.
The shapes can be hand cut but for more uniform shapes, use a Cricut machine.
Garland Ideas:
- Baby shower decorations- cut out storks, umbrellas or other baby themed items to use around tables or to hang on the wall
- Birthday parties- make a garland of pennant shapes and paint or glue the phrase “Happy Birthday” to the shapes.
- Room décor- make a garland to compliment a room’s color scheme or to add interest with a contrasting color.
For scrapbook paper and Cricut machines or templates, check Hobby Lobby, Michael’s and Walmart. Online stores such as Amazon also have a variety of items to pick from. The idea from this project came from the Oklahoma City Indie Craft Bazaar that is held annually in December on an annual basis.
