Each weekday, Lynne Saunders, founder of Papa’s Pantry, employees, countless volunteers, and community resources, work together to provide practical help for residents in need, of the Cherokee and Cobb county areas. Papa’s Pantry, located in the Northwest Atlanta suburbs “is more than just a hand out, it is a hand up,” Saunders started after she returned from a missions trip to India.
Years earlier, Saunders found herself as a single mother in need. Reluctantly, she received food from a ministry. The minister ran a food ministry from a pantry in his home. As hesitant as she was, she remembers making a promise that one day, she would do the same for others. It turned out that she eventually married the son of that minister.
When Saunders returned from the mission trip to India, she began thinking of all the resources that we, as a nation have, as two billboards caught her eye, driving home from the Atlanta airport, and yet so many are suffering needlessly. The Lord began dealing with her about beginning a ministry. She sought pastoral counsel, as well as, that of other organizations. One night she had a dream that played like a movie in which she was given the name for Papa’s Pantry. Additionally, she received other confirmation as she began to move forward in pursuit of the dream, she had been given, including a promise from God‘s word, “Despise not humble beginnings.”
The ministry began humbly in her home, moved to a shared office, and is now located in Woodstock, with a newly opened satellite location in Canton.
