Forget 50 Shades of Grey. There's a new shade in town and its name is Radiant Orchid.
Pantone, the "global color authority," has spent the last year looking for color influences and announced today its official pick for the upcoming new year's must-have color. Radiant Orchid, aka PANTONE 18-3224, follows the 2013 pick of Emerald and is described as "a captivating, magical, enigmatic purple,."
“An enchanting harmony of fuchsia, purple and pink undertones, Radiant Orchid inspires confidence and emanates great joy, love and health. It is a captivating purple, one that draws you in with its beguiling charm," the company elaborates in its press release.
Multiple retailers and publications responded to the pick and adjusted their content to embrace the trend accordingly on Thursday. Sephora, for instance, came up with some ways to incorporate Radiant Orchid into your makeup routine, while wedding magazine The Knot whipped up a graphic showing how to use it as a color for nuptials.
Pantone also included some tips of its own on how to use the shade in fashion, beauty, and decorating. According to the press release, other colors it blends well with include reds, purples, and deeper hunter greens, to name a few. Radiant Orchid was also included in Pantone's Spring 2014 Fashion Color Report released in September during New York Fashion Week.
