Panthers trade Ellerby to Kings Friday

According to TSN, the Florida Panthers have traded Strathmore, Alberta native Keaton Ellerby to the Los Angeles Kings for a fifth round draft pick in the 2013 National Hockey League entry draft.

Strathmore is half a hour east of Calgary.

So far in the 2013 National Hockey League regular season, Ellerby has zero points in nine games, is a -2, with 36 penalty minutes, 15 hits and eight shots.

Ellerby, a defenceman who began his career with the Panthers in 2009-10, spent over three seasons with the Panthers and had two goals and 15 assists for 17 points in 125 games. This season was the first in his career that he had more penalty minutes than regular season games.

The Kings have issues on their blueline with Willie Mitchell out indefinitely with knee surgery and Matt Greene with back surgery and out indefinitely as well.

The Kings, who are the defending Stanley Cup champions, are currently 3-4-2 and are four points back of the St. Louis Blues for a playoff spot in the Western Conference standings.
