As if they hadn't spent enough money already on Wednesday, the Carolina Panthers came to terms with K Olindo Mare and TE Ben Hartsock.
Mare, 38, signed a 4-year, $12 million deal which includes a $4 million signing bonus. What's more of a head-scratcher is that the Panthers currently have K John Kasay on the roster, and Mare -- at age 38 -- isn't much of an upgrade over the 41-year old team captain.
Mare last played with Seattle, making 83.3 % (25 of 30) of his field goal attempts last season.
Hartsock, 31, signed a two-year deal, terms were not immediately available. Hartsock will provide the blocking at the TE position that former Panther Jeff King had been relied upon to handle. King signed with the Arizona Cardinals on Tuesday, meaning the Panthers needed to fill that role.
Last season with the Jets, Hartsock played in 16 games and recorded one catch.
