PantheaCon 2011: Pan-pagan convention returns to San Jose on February 18

PantheaCon, an interfaith pagan convention that brings together thousands of people from across the United States, will be happening in San Jose, CA this coming President's Day weekend.

The convention's dates are Feb 18-21 and will be held at the DoubleTree Hotel. As usual for PantheaCon, they will be taking up the entirety of the hotel's function space.

The theme for this year's gathering is "Walking the Talk." People who submitted presentations for the event were encouraged to focus on the meaning of that phrase for pagans in modern times.

Despite the skew toward Wicca evinced on the front page ("Earth Mother" isn't consistent across all pagan religions as a focus or even a deity type), PantheaCon is a very diverse gathering. Presentations will range from a voudou sevis for Danbala the earth serpent to a Pagan/Hindu dialogue focusing on commonalities and differences between Western neopagan traditions and the last IndoEuropean religion with a known unbroken tradition.

It should also be noted that PantheaCon provides ample opportunities to relax and enjoy as well as think, learn, and worship. Concerts abound on the schedule as well as a chance for attendees to sing themselves. And convention-goers are provided ample time for meal breaks as well as being able to take advantage of various hospitality suites to sit and chat with friends both old and new.

Pagans and others seeking to learn more about different Earth-based and occult traditions could do far worse than attending PantheaCon. Pre-convention registration is closed, but at-the-door memberships will be sold.
