Pantech Discover offers AT&T DriveMode

The Pantech Discover on AT&T is a good Android phone for those looking for simplicity, speed, and a good bargain. Running Android 4.04, Ice Cream Sandwich, the Discover is available for $49.99 with a two-year contract from AT&T. It is one of the first devices to feature AT&T’s DriveMode app.

The DriveMode app helps prevent drivers from reading or sending texts, making or accepting calls, and being distracted while driving. If an owner of a Pantech Discover activates the app and drives at speeds over 25 MPH, the phone automatically sends the other party a message.

The message is pretty simple and indicates the following by default: “AT&T DriveMode AutoReply: Thanks for your msg. I’m driving and unable to reply. I will get back to you soon. When it comes to texting and driving, it can wait.”

This is a nice feature and enables those who can not control their urge to glance at or use their device while driving to not worry about reading or responding. Users can specify a list of people with whom it is acceptable to answer calls or see texts as they come up. By default, no exceptions are made.
