In light of recent school shootings, including one in Atlanta today, some schools are considering an option that banks have used for decades - panic buttons. These panic buttons would provide teachers a way to silently alert safety personnel to a threat in the classroom without raising the suspicion of an attacker. This measure would be an alternative to allowing teachers to have guns on school property, which at least one school district in Arkansas considered. The measure was blocked by regulatory agencies after the district had trained select staff.
