The River Herring & Shad Advisory Panel of the Mid-Atlantic Fishery Management Council (MAFMC) has scheduled a webinar in June to discuss conservation and fishing caps. MAFMC announced the event in the Federal Register of Tuesday, May 20, 2014. The panel plans to use the session to develop recommendations for the cap on river herring and shad for the 2015 Atlantic mackerel fishery. It also will discuss conservation of the species in general.
The webinar is scheduled for Friday, June 6, 2014 at 1:30 p.m. ET. The public can listen in via Internet by signing in at http://mafmc.adobeconnect.com/rhsap/. You can enter as a guest; no password is required. People can also attend in person at the MAFMC office at 800 N. State St., Suite 201, Dover, Del. 19901. If you plan to attend in person, the council asks that you call in advance to let them know you are coming at (302) 674-2331.
The meeting room is accessible for people with disabilities. But if you need any assistance, such as sign language interpretation, MAFMC asks that you notify it at least five days in advance. Contact M. Jan Saunders at (302) 526-5251.
If you have any questions, contact the council's executive director, Christopher M. Moore Ph.D., at the above address or at (302) 526-5255. The webinar will include time for the public to make comments and ask questions. Later in the month, MAFMC will set the cap for fishing the species based largely on what the panel recommends.
The panel may discuss other issues at the webinar. But it will not take any action on them, since they are not part of the official agenda, unless some emergency measure comes up. If it does, the panel and MAFMC will notify the public in advance, in compliance with the Magnuson-Stevens Fishery Conservation & Management Act.
