Panel to discuss policy on Atlantic migratory species fishing

The Atlantic Highly Migratory Species (HMS) Advisory Panel of the National Marine Fisheries Service plans a two-day meeting in April. The panel will meet between 10:30 a.m. and 5:30 p.m. on Thursday, April 3 and 8:30 a.m. to 3:00 p.m. on Friday, April 4.

The service announced the meeting on Friday, March 14.

The agenda:

  • Pre-drafts to the 2006 Consolidated HMS Fishery Management Plan regarding dusky shark management measures and the future of the shark fishery,
  • A review of public comments on Draft Amendment 7 on bluefin tuna management.
  • Progress updates on implementing what the International Commission for the Conservation of Atlantic Tunas recommended last year, the HMS Research Plan, smoothhound shark management, and recreational issues for Atlantic HMS fisheries.

The event takes place at the the Sheraton Hotel, 8777 Georgia Av., Silver Spring, MD 20910. You can attend or tune in via webinar. The panel is setting aside time for public comment.
