CLEVELAND, Ohio - The Cleveland performing arts party of the year is almost here! Pandemonium (Pan) 2013 will “Shine” throughout the Cleveland Public Theatre (CPT) campus on Saturday, September 7. But today, artist Caitlin Lewins gives us the Wednesday scoop on her upcoming original PAN piece, which will be performed at this weekend's festivities.

Kate Miller: What is your role in Cleveland Public Theatre’s Pan this year?
Caitlin Lewins: I am one of the CPT Joan Yellen Horvitz 2013-2014 Director Fellows. One of my duties includes creating a piece for Pandemonium, and I've joined forces with a few of my best friends to do so. From the CPT website: "The Director Fellows Program is a year-long residency that provides mentoring, formal classwork and practical work. Fellows assistant direct, create new work, and direct at least one show in CPT's season."

KM: Tell me about your piece.
CL: We are the “Heart and Soulios” - a traveling quatrain of minestronies serving up an appe-teaser of CPT’s 2013-2014 season. Our piece is a short musical medley previewing the 2013-2014 season, and we will be performing on the Vaudeville Stage in the Church. It is intended to create fun, not make fun. Instruments include voice, guitar, bass guitar, electric organ, and a few other surprise (or cameo) instruments.

KM: How many people are involved in it?
CL: Performers/Lyricists/Writers/Composers include Mark Baldarelli, Elizabeth Kelly, Ryan Manns and myself. Our choreographer is Nina Rossi.

KM: What inspired you to do it?
CL: While in the Devised Directing Class at CPT last fall, a collaborator, a friend of mine and I created a piece of music for Earth Plays, which we ultimately did not use. This inspired an idea that a piece of music could be created to represent each show in CPT's season! We originally were going to do a season recap of 2012-2013, but a member of the Pandemonium Production Team suggested a season preview.

KM: What are you looking forward to the most this year about Pan?
CL: Witnessing a couple hundred volunteer artists come together in support of a theatre company I love with all my heart.
