The beautiful panda twins that were born at the Atlanta Zoo in July are now 100 days old and according to Chinese tradition, they are able to be officially named today. This is where “Good Morning America” came in as they had teamed up with the zoo in naming the cubs with the public’s help. The morning show revealed on Oct. 23 that the cubs formally known as cub A and cub B are now Mei Lun and Mei Huan.
A poll was put up on “GMA”s website a few weeks ago for everyone to vote for their favorite names for these precious animals. There were five choices to choose from and each pair of names had a different meaning. The chosen names of Mei Lun and Mei Huan are Chinese idioms that means indescribably beautiful and magnificent. That certainly describes these sweet boys.
This landmark event is so important for the panda population as Zoo Atlanta is doing their part in making sure these twins are healthy and thriving. The growing cubs are now almost 10 lbs. and getting more mobile each day. They will be walking in a couple of weeks and will spend more time with their mom Lun Lun.
What do you think about the chosen names of Mei Lun and Mei Huan?
