Purchase boxed pancake mixes, or keep the ingredients for homemade mixes in the pantry. All the necessary ingredients can easily be found at Hannaford or Walmart in the Bangor area. Be sure to pick up anything you want to use for add-ins while you are out, and consider these toppings to add a new taste to your pancake-based meal.
Pancake Toppings
-
Apple pie filling and a dollop of whipped topping. If the pie filling is not seasoned, add some cinnamon as well.
-
Bananas with whipped topping or vanilla yogurt.
-
Apple slices with maple syrup.
-
Strawberry syrup with sliced strawberries.
-
Whipped topping with shaved chocolate.
-
A tablespoon or two of chocolate syrup with banana or strawberry slices.
-
Pineapple syrup with cherries. Choose fresh cherries.
-
Raspberry or maple syrup and raspberries.
-
Blackberries and vanilla yogurt.
-
Plain yogurt and sweet apple slices topped with cinnamon.
Experimentation is key with any dish, so think about what topping combinations you might like and go for it. If something doesn't work for you, don't make it again.
Serving Suggestions
-
Unless you are using fruit as a topping choice, you will want to add some as a side dish to this meal. Try chunks of honey dew and cantaloupe with a dollop or two of vanilla yogurt.
-
Pork or beef products go well with pancakes and fruit.
