Visit Virginia.org to find special Mother's Day events taking place across the state. This year is the 100th anniversary of the first national Mother's Day celebration, always celebrated on the second Sunday in May.

More phone calls are made on Mother's Day than any day of the year. Mother's Day is the second most popular gift-giving holiday and the third largest holiday for sending cards.

Moms of all ages can enjoy breakfast in bed, served by their partner and children. Moms may enjoy a family fun day, a day of relaxation, a family brunch or dinner, a weekend getaway trip or time with extended family.

Here are some ways to pamper the mom in your life across Virginia over the Mother's Day weekend.

The Spring Bloom Festival at Kings Dominion features thousands of blooms at one of Virginia's favorite destinations for family fun. Kings Dominion celebrates its 40th anniversary in 2014. Enjoy a day of family fun at Kings Dominion for Mother's Day.

The Shenandoah Antiques Expo at Expoland in Fishersville takes place May 9-10. This event features hundreds of exhibitors selling and displaying antiques and vintage Americana. The Expo runs from 9-6 on Friday and 9-5 on Saturday.

Enjoy a Wintergreen Resort Mother's Day Brunch on May 9-11. Reserve your space in advance for this popular event, held at one of Virginia's favorite resort locations.

The Antique Rose Festival at Old City Cemetery will be held from 9-2 on Saturday, May 10. Take a walk along the rose wall in the cemetery on Mother's Day and bring your camera to take family photos on the old swing. The Mother's Day Rose Walk at Old City Cemetery is from 3-4 p.m.

Take mom on a Mother's Day Carriage Rides at the Edith J. Carrier Arboretum and Botanical Gardens at JMU in Harrisonburg. Rides are Saturday, May 10 from 6:30-9:30 p.m. and Sunday, May 11 from 1-4 p.m. Please reserve in advance.

Find the perfect Mother's Day gift at the Saunders Farm Market Retail Plant Sale on Saturday, May 10 from 8-5. You'll find annuals, perennials, trees and shrubs at the sale, held at Saunders Farm Market in Piney River. There will also be live music.

Enjoy a Mother's Day Tea at Maymont in Richmond on Saturday, May 10 from 2-4 p.m. After tea, take a family-friendly tour of the Mansion together.

Treat mom to a Mother's Day Brunch at Peaks of Otter on Sunday, May 11 from 11-4. Reservations are recommended. After brunch, take a walk around the lake or on one of the trails.

Come to Avoca for a Mother's Day Tea on Sunday, May 11 from 1:30-4:30 p.m. Enjoy light refreshments and self-guided tours of the historic home and gardens.

A Mother's Day Brunch will be served at Natural Bridge from 11:30-3:30 on Sunday, May 11. Mothers who attend the brunch will receive free admission for the day at Natural Bridge.

Celebrate Mother's Day at Poplar Forest with free admission for all moms on Sunday, May 11. Take a walk through history with your family at Poplar Forest.
