Families may find choosing a drug and rehabilitation facility for a loved one confusing unless it’s a celebrity heading to a well-known place like the Betty Ford Center in Palm Springs. There are more than 14,500 specialized drug treatment facilities in the United States, according to drugabuse.gov.
The cost of a facility does not guarantee quality treatment.
A Palos Verdes man with a background in software development has launched an online service called Book Your Care to provide accurate information on drug and alcohol rehabilitation centers. Currently, the site is focusing on California treatment centers.
This is the first and only service that executes and shares 100% unbiased and thorough reviews of drug rehabilitation facilities with personal visits made to each facility.
Michael Sigal, former vice president with Monster.com, started Book Your Care after his son was ill and became addicted to prescription drugs. “Doctors had no idea what was wrong with my son. They got him hooked and said he was crazy.
“I knew nothing about the world of rehabilitation centers so I began researching options. I had no idea what money would buy me. I could spend several hundred per month to several thousand per month for a palatial palace in Malibu.”
Michael discovered that what was written about a facility didn’t necessarily match when he saw the place in person. He found one in Sherman Oaks that looked reasonable.
“I took my son there, but I couldn’t talk to the treatment team. They were overworked and underpaid.”
Michael learned the center was part of a real estate business where investors bought condos and counted on real estate appreciation. The treatment center was set up for cash flow purposes. He said the 2008 financial crisis hit, the level of patients decreased, and the bank foreclosed on the center.
“One of the people who worked there and tried to help, told me about the industry and how some centers helped while others were crooked. I saw this was a fragmented industry needing help.”
Book Your Care started in 2013 and matches families and patients in California looking for qualified treatment centers and helps the treatment centers attract appropriate clients.
