Palo Alto police have arrested two suspects who reportedly carjacked a woman using a BB gun over the weekend.
The arrests came at about 9:40 p.m. Saturday after an officer spotted the stolen vehicle leaving the scene of the crime in the 100 block of California Avenue where the victim told police she had just been carjacked by an unknown male.
The victim gave police a description of the suspect and her vehicle and that she had seen the suspect stop a block away to pick up another unknown male.
Officers from the Palo Alto Police Department arrived on scene within 30 seconds and one officer immediately spotted the stolen vehicle, which was then occupied by three people. A traffic stop was made and the three suspects were detained.
Police arrested 18-year-old Amador Valentin Rivera and a 16-year-old juvenile. The third suspect was interviewed and released after police determined he had no involvement in the crime.
Investigation revealed that Rivera allegedly approached the victim while she was in her parked car, knocked on her window, and pointed the gun at her. The victim complied and the suspect drove away while the victim called 911 on her cell phone.
Detectives believe the 16-year-old, who is not being named because he is a minor, assisted Rivera in the carjacking, but was unseen by the victim.
Both Rivera and the juvenile were arrested on felony carjacking charges and booked into Santa Clara County Jail and Juvenile Hall respectively.
Anyone with information on this case is urged to contact Palo Alto police at (650) 329-2413.
