In Florida, Arbor Day is celebrated the third Friday in January each year. This year, State Farm agent Janine Tillman sponsored the fourth grade students at Palm Pointe Educational Research School @ Tradition in the St. Lucie County School District, by donating trees and wildflower seeds for Arbor Day. National Arbor Day is the last Friday in April, but many states observe Arbor Day on different dates according to their best tree-planting times.

Thanks to State Farm, students from Victoria Cornelius’ fourth grade class at Palm Pointe learned the importance of taking care of the Earth, not only for themselves but for future generations. It will be exciting for students, after planting trees, caring for them, and watching the trees grow for many years to come as they help to beautify and enhance the environment.

Arbor Day (from the Latin arbor, meaning tree) is a holiday in which individuals and groups are encouraged to plant and care for trees. It originated in Nebraska City, Nebraska, United States by J. Sterling Morton. The first Arbor Day was held on April 10, 1872 and an estimated one million trees were planted that day. Many countries now observe a similar holiday. Though usually observed in the spring, the date varies, depending on climate and suitable planting season.
