New numbers just out today, show that the unemployment rates have dropped to a two year low. The nationwide unemployment rate is at 8.8%, the Florida unemployment rate is at 11.5% and the Palm Beach County unemployment rate is at 11.1%.
The unemployment rate in Palm Beach County was at 12% in January. Currently, an estimated 68,200 people in the county are still out of work; however, with the unemployment rate dropping, people are finding work. But where?
Workforce Alliance is saying that it should be easier to find work now, then in recent months.
Mimi Coenen from the Alliance stated,
"We are leveraging down, so we are getting more folks jobs, which is a really good thing. It's nice to have that good news. We're hearing that people are finally getting employed. We hear that is a result of us prepping them and getting them ready to go to work."
According to Workforce Alliance, more than 350 job seekers in Palm Beach County found work last month. Coenen stated,
"We are prepping people. People are walking out of Workforce Alliance knowing how to show the value that they bring to an employer."
Many job seekers are being forced to re-invent themselves and learn new skills in order to transfer to new careers.
The industries where most people are finding work, according to Workforce Alliance, are in IT, Medical, District Sales, Marketing and Communications.
