The coalition of concerned citizens and citizen's groups which make up the Palm Beach County Taxpayer Action Board (TAB) will be back before commissioners Tuesday, September 28th for the last public hearing on the Palm Beach County 2011 budget.
TAB has offered up a serious proposal to eliminate over $170 million they say is spending the county should not be forcing upon the property owners and renters. Commissioners should focus more on the core purpose of government. All but county commissioner Steven Abrams scoffed at the coalition's proposal and commission chair, Burt Aaronson even remarked how TAB's proposal could ruin the county if they were taken up. It would appear Steven Abrams is the "lone ranger" on the 6th floor when it comes to seriously considering slashing the county spending spree in hard times. All the other commissioners seem to suffer from the inability to say "NO" to well-intentioned organizations coming up to the podium asking for taxpayer money.
As expected from some, the county commission will not change one item on the budget as a result of the public hearings in September as can be seen here.
The next and last public hearing on the 2011 budget is set for Tuesday, September 28th at 6PM at the Government Building located at 301 N Olive Avenue in West Palm Beach on the 6th floor. Expect liberals, conservatives, libertarians and independents to speak out against the proposed budget - but don't hold your breath they will change one dime of the spending. Hopefully this reporter will be found wrong come Tuesday evening.
