This past week, Florida held primary elections for the Democratic and Republican party candidates, as well as non-partisan races and some questions to be answered in a couple of the towns within the county. Many winners of the partisan races will continue forward through the November 4, 2014 General Election.

As you can see with the overwhelming majority of the winners – name recognition goes a long way to winning an election. Here are the results:

U.S. Congress District 18 (Republican Primary)

Republican Carl Domino won taking in 47.29% of the vote over his five opponents.

U.S. Congress District 20 (Democratic Primary)

Alcee Hastings won over his two opponents garnering 75% of the votes.

U.S. Congress District 21 (Democratic Primary)

Ted Deutch won over his opponent Morel with over 93% of the vote total.

U.S. Congress District 22 (Republican Primary)

Republican Paul Spain will move on to face Democrat Lois Frankel in November, taking 47.47% of the vote over his two opponents.

Republican Florida Governor

Rick Scott won over his two opponents garnering over 86% of the vote total. He will face Charlie Crist, Adrian Wyllie as well as some no party affiliation candidates in November.

Democrat Florida Governor

Charlie Crist won over Nan Rich in the Democratic Party primary gaining over 86% of the vote total. He will face Libertarian Adrian Wyllie, Republican Rick Scott and the no party affiliation candidates vying to be Florida’s next governor. Attorney General (Democratic Primary)

George Sheldon won over 67% of the vote and will face Republican Pam Bondi and Libertarian Bill Wohlsifer in the November General Election. Sheldon still faces a court challenge over his qualification to hold the office of Attorney General due to a residency dispute.

State Senate – District 32 (Republican Primary)

Joe Negron won over his opponent Brandon Cannon with over 85% of the votes.

State Representative – District 81 (Democratic Primary)

Kevin Rader easily won with over 71% of the vote total.

Palm Beach County Commission – District 6 (Democratic Primary)

Melissa McKinlay won with over 58% of the vote total and will face Republican Andy Schaller and Michelle Santamaria (NPA) in the general election. More on these candidates in a future article.

Circuit Judge, 15th Circuit, Group 14 (non-partisan)

Jessica Ticktin handily beat incumbent Diana Lewis with over 54% of the vote.

Circuit Judge, 15th Circuit, Group 30 (non-partisan)

Jamie Goodman won over his two opponents with almost 55% of the vote total.

Palm Beach County School Board – District 3

Karen Brill easily kept her seat on the board with over 80% of the votes.

Palm Beach County School Board – District 4

A much closer race amongst four candidates was won by Erica Whitfield garnering over 32% of the votes.

Palm Beach County School Board – District 6

Marcia Andrews won with over 57% of the votes.

Palm Beach County School Board – District 7

Debra Robinson won with nearly 72% of the votes.

Delray Beach Question regarding changing the city charter in order to fire a city manager from a super majority to a simple majority of the city commission won with over 62% of the votes.

Lake Worth Question whether to put the city in debt another $62.5 million lost slightly 26 votes. It is unclear if this will trigger a recount or challenge, though we will let you know in the coming days.
