In a 4 to 3 vote last week, the Palm Beach County commission is set to raise property taxes for Palm Beachers by 2.6% for the 2012 county budget. This increase is not set in stone, however unless there is a large public outcry before September, we'll all be paying a higher millage rate than last year. The only dissenting votes came from Commissioners Abrams, Burdick and Marcus.
The Palm Beach County Taxpayer Action Board was out in force for the July 11th morning budget hearing speaking against the tax hike attempting to educate the commissioners on better fiscal rememdies to the county's approximate $40 million shortfall to the budget. TAB is a diverse consortium of different Palm Beach County-based organizations interested in seeing county government adhere to better fiscal responsibility of taxpayer money.
It is being recommended each Palm Beach County taxpayer contact their county commissioner, or all the county commissioners, and suggest they follow the recommendations of TAB when they come to vote on the 2012 budget in September.
