Ex-Alaskan Governor Sarah Palin signed a book deal with HarperCollins to co-write a new book based on her upbringing in Alaska, her life and her candidacy.
Palin told the Associated Press, "There's been so much written about and spoken about in the mainstream media and in the anonymous blogosphere world, that this will be a wonderful, refreshing chance for me to get to tell my story, that a lot of people have asked about, unfiltered."
"Being a voracious reader, I read a lot today and have read a lot growing up. And having that journalism degree, all of that, will be a great assistance for me in writing this book, talking about the challenges and the joys, balancing the work and parenting, and, in my case, work means running the state." Palin said.
Palin seems to be willing to be actively involved in the writing of the entire memoir. In addition to being the new spokesperson for the Republican Party, as reported by Fox News, Palin's plate will be full. A poll revealed a large amount of GOP wish she will stick around to be a "national political figure'. This could yield high book sales for HarperCollins and Palin.
The book deals for celebrity and high profile political figures are reportedly worth six and seven figures. Many sites on line report Palin's book deal worth anywhere from $4 to $11 million dollars. This advance is only the tip of the iceberg for Palin, a report of up-wards of $15 million per year by leaving the Governor's office, with it's $125,000 per year salary.
The average advance for book contracts in general, including the Austin area, depends on the genre, but can be in the mid four figures to the low five figures. It proves, it pays to be a ex-political official or celebrity when it comes to writing. Writers often must spend as many hours promoting their work, as writing it, in order to even cover the advance.
HarperCollins is banking on the high visibility and publicity for Palin's memoirs, to be released in early 2010.

Mrs. Palin isn't the only one writing a book.
So is Levi Johnston, drop-out daddy of her out-of-wedlock grandson.
