Although the Tea Party has come under fire recently as being a commercial endeavor and some see the Tea Party as tea-tering on the edge, Sarah Palin is defending her reasons for speaking with members of the Tea Party movement this weekend.

In a USA Today op-ed titled "Why I'm Speaking at Tea Party Convention," Palin explained how she looks forward to meeting many Americans who share a commitment to limited government, common sense and personal responsibility.

Palin said, "I thought long and hard about my participation in this weekend's event. At the end of the day, my decision came down to this: It's important to keep faith with people who put a little bit of their faith in you."

Palin will headline the dinner although Rep. Michele Bachmann (R) of Minnesota and Marsha Blackburn (R) of Tennessee have pulled out citing questions brought up by the House Ethics Committee over the Tea Party Nation’s for-profit status.  Palin is rumored to receive a $100,000 speaker's fee, but she writes that “any compensation for my appearance will go right back to the cause.”

Palin’s decision to stick with the grassroots, organic effort means excitement is building around the Tea Party convention. Fox News has announced it will carry Palin’s speech, as will PJTV, the conservative online network. It will also be covered online at twitter.com/SarahPalinUSA, and be certain that the conversation will continue on Palin's Facebook page.

As Mattthew Continetti writes in the Weekly Standard, "Palin's self-identification with the Tea Party is important. Clearly she sees parallels between the popular movements that brought her to office in Wasilla and Juneau and the movement currently pulling American politics to the right."

"The soul of the Tea Party is the people who belong to it — everyday Americans who grow our food, run our small businesses, teach our children how to read, serve the less fortunate and fight our wars," Palin said. "They're folks in small towns and cities across this nation who saw what was happening to our country and decided to get involved. Thank God for them. Many of these good Americans had never been involved in their government before, but now they attend town hall meetings and participate in online forums. They write letters to the editor. They sign up to be precinct leaders and run for local office and support other independent patriots. They have the courage to stand up and speak out."

Palin has also announced she'll participate in two Tea Party events coming up this spring: the Searchlight, Nevada kickoff of the third Tea Party Express and a rally in Boston in May.

Palin said, "The process may not always be pretty or perfect, but the message is loud and clear: We want a government worthy of the fine Americans that it serves. And we're going to keep spreading that message one convention, one town hall, one speech and one election at a time."

It looks to me like the Obama administration is starting to eye your retirement. As of right now, it might look relatively harmless . but the Obama et al are “weighing how the government can encourage workers to turn their savings into guaranteed income streams.” Call me paranoid, but this looks to me like just the opening shot of what will become an attempt by the government to seize your retirement funds. How could they make this work? They would tell you that something needs to be done to make sure that you have a guaranteed income stream throughout your retirement years. They begin with language like “encouraging workers.

Soon it turns into “requiring workers.” Before you know it, they have complete control. Oh yeah … they’ll have all the excuses ready to go. Try this: “We need to make sure that all Americans have a comfortable retirement. We also need to make sure that Americans don’t take untoward risks with their retirement funds that could leave them destitute. So, we think it would be best if the government just took control of these funds, invested them and then doled them out to working Americans when they reached retirement age. America will be made stronger by a strong and secure retired class. We will all be better off when our senior citizens can live a life without fear of financial disaster.”

    Can’t you hear it coming?

As soon as next week, the Department of Labor and the Treasury will take public comment on ways to promote the idea converting 401(k) savings and IRAs into annuities or other steady payment streams. Assistant Labor Secretary Phyllis C. Borzi says that there is a “tremendous amount of interest in the White House in retirement-security initiatives.” I bet there is.

Look, folks this is just the beginning. I’ve been warning you for years that the government will go to any lengths to get a hold of more of your money. Retirement savings are a huge target that can’t be ignored.

Not this Examiner but MOST other stories on Palin are personal attacks on her or her family and NEVER on policy issues.

She held elected office in Alaska so she DOES have a history to use against her if you want, but they have NOTHING but Alinsky?Obama type personal attacks. Really says much about those who use Rule #6 of Rules fro Radicals.
