As it turns out, you should have just gone on and had that egg nog over the holidays. Followers of the Paleo Diet may be unhappy to learn that it has been declared the worst diet on the list, according to a Jan. 7 report on CNN.com. It appears that the Paleo Diet is too restrictive and lacks some essential nutrients.
An official list of the best and worst diet plans was compiled by US News and World Report, and the Paleo Diet tied with the Dukan Diet at the tail end of the list. (It is important to remember that some diet plans didn’t even make the list!)
The Paleo Diet, first discussed in the 1970s but recently gaining popularity, involves eating like the cavemen did. Foods that would be part of the diet of a hunter/gatherer are the only foods allowed. This leaves out dairy, sugar, grains, and legumes. Produce and animal proteins are the allowable food sources.
