What Is A Caliph?

The Caliph is the leader of an Islamic community that follows Shariah Law. The Pakistani Minister of State for Industries Ayatullah Durrani had made a plea for President Obama to offer Eid prayers on September 11 and declare himself the leader of the Muslim world.

He has called for this to take place at Ground Zero in New York City, the site where the World Trade Center buildings were taken down by planes flown by Islamic terrorists.

Durrani belongs to the Pakistan People's Party and had been a member of the Pakistan Ideological Council.

While Durrani is not in the mainstream, and certainly no one would expect that his call would be given any serious attention, it is interesting none the less that such a call would be made.

One would be hard pressed to think of any other U.S. president who would have this offer made to them. The human interest aspect comes in light of the recent Pew Research poll which found that close to 20% of Americans believe that President Obama is of the Muslim faith (Pew Research poll asks Americans what religion they believe President Obama to be (Polling results)).
