Pakistan new island rises from the Arabian Sea in aftermath of a 7.7 magnitude earthquake. The quake struck in the province of Baluchistan, near the Iran border. According to The Toronto Star on Sept. 25, over 300 were killed and thousands injured so far by the earthquake.
The tremors were powerful enough to create a small mountainous island, 600 metres off Pakistan's Gwadar coastline in the Arabian sea.
Pakistan new island was caught on camera as it rose from the sea. People watched it happen before their eyes. The island is 100 feet in diameter and about 30 to 60 feet high. It is most likely a mud volcano created by methane gas rising to the surface during the quake. The island will likely collapse down under the waves in a few months.
In addition to the Pakistan new island many were killed in the remote but populated area due to their mud houses collapsing. This is the worst earthquake in the country since 2005 when 75,000 died. Rescuers had a hard time reaching the area due to mountains and desert.
More death and destruction, albeit due to the forces of nature, comes on the heels of a church suicide bombing that killed 80 in Peshawar over the weekend.
