On February 16, 2012, Pakistani actress Meera claimed that two years ago, Pakistan cricketer Shoaib Akhtar and she had a year long affair, while Shoaib was still playing for Pakistan's national team.
According to Meera, she wasted one precious year of her life waiting for Shoaib to commit. She finally broke off the intense affair when Shoaib proposed to her and her cousin during the course of the same day.
Meera further disclosed being slapped by Shoaib publicly at a private TV channel's office in Pakistan.
However, Shoaib Akhtar who is usually quite open about his life, has categorically denied ever having any relations with Meera. Meera is well known in Pakistan as well as India for her attention grabbing tactics.
According to Shoaid Akhtar, now retired from cricket and working with a private channel as an expert on the Pakistan-England on-going series
“I never had any affair with Meera. The problem is that if a well known cricketer even smiles at a girl she thinks he is in love with her. I had no relationship with her at all,”.
Shoaib had recently got into a controversy by saying Indian batsman Sachin Tendulkar was scared of his fast bowling.
