Pajamas are usually that comfortable look that one goes for after a long day. While the everyday gal may classify pajamas as sleepwear, Hollywood is taking it up a notch to the red carpet. According to a Dec. 17 New York Times report, designers are taking loungewear and pajamas to a whole level – “go out to dinner” or “hibernate in it in style.”
Over the last few weeks, the red carpet has been abuzz with celebrities like Rihanna, Jessica Alba and Sofia Coppola making a splash in their loungewear.
WebPro News reports that pajamas were the newest hit at New York Fashion Week last September. Designer Alexander Wang jumping on the trend with “collared short sets in simple solids and pinstripes.”
Designer Marc Jacobs is also no stranger to this growing fashion trend. A pioneer of the pajamas and loungewear club, he has been known to take a bow for his shows in stylish loungewear sets and is not opposed to rocking night robes after fashion show after parties.
Of course, Playboy guru Hugh Hefner is the ultimate godfather of the trend. He is rarely seen without his loungewear.
As celebrities embrace the trend, pajamas and loungewear are becoming official street wear norms. One scrubs company, FIGS, has given the look a new spin, modernizing loungewear for outdoors. Not only does FIGS dress consumers, but it provides an opportunity to give back. For every set of loungewear sold, it donates a set of loungewear scrubs to a healthcare provider in need.
