The red carpet was all a glitter with stars and socialites at the Rita Hayworth 30th Anniversary Gala for Alzheimer’s at The Waldorf Astoria in New York City. The fundraiser was held in the legendary Grand Ballroom the other night.
The event was started by Princess Yasmin Aga Khan as a tribute to her mother, Rita Hayworth who succumbed to the disease in 1987. She has remained an active leader and supporter. “This event means everything in the world to me, and we hope to find a cause and a cure because so many are affected by this terrible disease.” She looked dazzling on the red carpet, and I asked about her fabulous gown. “My favorite designer, Naeem Khan created my beaded and tulle one-of-a-kind gown. It reminds me of movement from the ocean and projects a mermaid effect.”
Other notables gracing the red carpet included Top Chef’s Padma Lakshmi also strutting in a Naeem Khan multi-colored striped stunner from his Spring 2014 runway show. Deborah Norville looked elegant in a royal blue Badgley Mischka and actress Brooke Shields was doubling up in a tuxedo by Hugo Boss. Tommy Hilfiger prefers another designer. “My tux was designed by Thomas J. Hilfiger, not Tommy Hilfiger.” Indeed! He also told me he was there to “support this very important cause.”
Nearly 700 movers and shakers in the top one percent attended the black-tie event, generously underwritten by Rolex. The evening raised nearly $1.7 million to support the Alzheimer’s Association care and research programs.
