On Monday February 6th, Top Rank Promotions announced that Manny Pacquiao had agreed to take on Timothy Bradley on June 9th. Although Bradley is still in the process of signing the contract, Pacquiao has agreed to all the terms and it's expected that Bradley will sign this week. Despite the perceived difference in levels of experience and talent, there are some who believe this will be a tough fight for Manny. According to a Monday February 6th report by BoxingScene.com, Manny's trainer Freddie Roach commented on the difficulties that Bradley will pose for Pacquiao:
“He’s a dirty fighter, well, he’s a physical fighter. He uses his head, elbows, so forth. Manny does have some trouble with that because Manny can’t retaliate. I tell Manny that if a guy hits you low, hit him back low, but he won’t do that. So, the thing is, it could pose a bit of a problem.”
Bradley (28-0, 12 KOs) is 28 years old and is one of the top fighters coming out of the junior welterweight division. He signed with Top Rank Promotions late last year and it was only a matter of time before he was in the ring with Pacquiao.
Since the fight between Manny and Floyd could not come to fruition, which is nothing new, Manny was forced to turn his attention elsewhere. However, arguably the top choice, other than Floyd, was Cotto who decided to fight Floyd instead of rematch Manny.
Instead of a 4th fight with Juan Manuel Marquez, who appeared to have beaten Manny last November, Pacquiao opted for Bradley. For more on Roach's comments click here.
