For the fifth year, the Down Syndrome Association of Central Texas will be hosting its annual Pack The Zach cocktail party and fundraiser on Thursday, March 20 from 7 to 10 p.m. The name was adopted after the event was moved to the Zach Scott Theatre last year. Examiner was there and a photo slideshow is attached from last year's Pack the Zach event.
Pack the Zach is one of the most important fundraising events for the non-profit organization. DSACT serves individuals with Down syndrome and their families throughout the Central Texas area. By moving the event to Amplify Austin Day, Pack the Zach becomes more focused on providing services to individuals with Down syndrome and their families. Last year, DSACT was one of Amplify Austin’s Top 25 Austin non-profits in funds raised, helping the one day drive for Austin area fundraisers reach almost $2.8 million.
“We’re excited to be aligning this year’s Pack the Zach event with Amplify Austin,” said Allie McCann, who is returning as this year’s event chair. “Pack the Zach and the Amplify Austin campaign are two of the primary ways we’ve been able to energize donors who help us do all the things we do for people with Down syndrome and their families throughout Austin and the surrounding areas.”
Funds raised from this year’s event will support educational and social programs for individuals with Down syndrome. These include the performing arts, Zumba dance, fitness boot camp, water safety and swim instruction, culinary arts, Spanish language instruction, self-defense, leadership, creative arts, book clubs and social programs.
The event features a variety of attractions including food, drinks, and door prizes. There will also be a silent auction with many items, including a round of golf at Barton Creek, Liz James Jewelry, a round of golf from Horseshoe Bay Resort and tickets to Austin Fashion Week. Sponsors for the event include Southwest Strategies, Austin American-Statesman, H-E-B, Orb Recording Studios, Randolph Brooks Federal Credit Union and Prosperity Bank. A sneak peek at the silent auction items is available on this Pinterest page.
Tickets for the event are $75 per person through March 19 and $100 on March 20, including at the door. Tickets are available by phone at 512-323-0808 or at the DSACT website.
