Pacific Mambo Orchestra heats up Jazz Alley with Latin big band beats

If you think it’s been hot in Seattle over the last several days it’s about to get even hotter as the Pacific Mambo Orchestra brings their fiery Latin big band sound to Dimitriou’s Jazz Alley this evening for a two night stand. The Grammy Award-winning 19-piece orchestra will crank up the heat with the genre-defining sounds of Salsa, Jazz, Mambo and a little Cha Cha Cha.

PMO took home a Grammy this year for “Best Tropical Latin Album,” which was no small feat given that their competition included the likes of Marc Anthony and other favorites in the Latin music world. PMO will showcase the music that had so many people snatching up their debut album – an album that circumvented financing (and control) from a major record label with the band taking matters into their own hands and funding their work through a Kickstarter campaign.

But PMO is not only known for their driving big band beats that defined some of the great Latin music from the 40's to the 60's. Among a set that pays tribute to the likes of Latin music greats such as Tito Puente and others, PMO tends to sneak in some more modern sounds of R&B and Hip Hop that has broadened their appeal even further.

The stage at Jazz Alley will be jam-packed with four trumpets, four trombones, five saxophones, timbales, congas, bongos, a piano and a bass - all fronted by lead singer Alexis Guillen. PMO is also known to invite special guests up on the stage during their performance. No word yet as to whether the numbers in the band will expand, but either way Jazz Alley will be ready for them.

PMO performs tonight, July 15, at 7:30pm at Jazz Alley. If you miss tonight’s performance you can still catch one of the hottest Latin big bands fully active on the West Coast tomorrow night, again at Jazz Alley, starting at 7:30pm.
